Emblem of the Renaissance and of the opulence of the Republic of Venice, Ca ' Vendramin Calergi Palace was built between the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century (there are uncertain dates about this). To began the construction there were Antonio Loredan (1420-1482) and the homonymous noble Venetian family, that throughout its history gave three Doges to Venice: Leonardo (1501 - '21), Peter (1567 - '70) and finally Francesco (1752- '62). The full name of the building is indeed "Loredan Vendramin Calergi". Architect of the project was Mauro Codussi, also author of the famous clock tower in San Marco’s square. In the course of time, the building changed ownership several times. In 1589, was the turn of the Venetian patrician Vettor Calergi, almost two hundred years after the related family Vendramin (also a noble Venetian family). In more recent times (since 1946), at the end of World War II, the city of Venice set there the winter home of the Casino.
Today the building is a crossroads of several prestigious social events, both private and cultural, and it is split between the main floor, open to multiple uses, and the second floor, dedicated to recreational use.
