Robert and Claudia celebrated their engagement in Venice, with a wedding proposal in a stunning Venetian palace. A series of events typical of one of those love stories from Hollywood that made us cry at the cinema. Claudia and Robert reinforced their union in a city like no other. Starting from the first surprise, an amazing gondola tour along the city canals, to the proper ritual no gentleman can avoid when the time to ask his beloved one’s hand has come. Write this down, you romantic guys, and open your heart wide. You will soon have something to fulfil it with.

To get to Venice from Australia it takes about 24 hours. A whole day. And when your feet finally touch the earth again, you still need some little time to recover from an intercontinental flight. A different hemisphere. A different continent. A different city, and, if speaking about Venice, a completely different world, too. Robert and Claudia arrived here with the firm decision of enjoying an unforgettable holiday. And no doubt it will be. And when it’s time to go back home, something will have changed forever. Somewhere here, in a Venetian historical palace, everything is ready for a romantic wedding proposal. The organisation has been extremely accurate. The two main characters are now the only ones missing.

There they are, sightseeing the city. Some stops really are a must. Whoever could come to Venice and avoid stopping for a while in St. Mark’s Square? That would be an artistic-architectural crime. The Procuratie vecchie and nuove, the Florian Cafè and its music, the Biblioteca Marciana, Saint Mark’s Clocktower, the Doge’s Palace and all the view of Saint Mark’s basin: Saint Giorgio Maggiore’s island, Punta della Dogana and the church of Madonna della Salute. A real Venice “binge”, after which a restorative walk becomes necessary; during this invigorating walk they will enjoy the view of other areas of the Serenissima from an even more peculiar perspective.

A holiday in Venice wouldn’t be the same without a long gondola ride. The two Australian tourists really don’t want to miss this special tour in the ravishing beauty. Therefore, as there is a dock just behind the mighty columns of Saint Mark and Saint Todaro, they decide to climb on board. In the meantime, a boy and a girl are passionately kissing on the Bridge of Sighs. There couldn't be a better sign for what is going to happen. Suddenly something comes into Claudia’s view and she incredulously exclaims “Oh my God, are you serious?”. From a bridge somebody dropped a poster with a big picture of the two of them and a huge banner writing “Claudia I love you, Today, Tomorrow, Forever”.

The gondola tour along “canali and canaletti” goes on. The girl is visibly moved. She draws close to him. The gondola goes back to the centre of the Grand Canal. After each meter of water you would like to cast a hypothetical anchor and let your soul be overwhelmed with  the emotion given by this ravishing beauty. After the Rialto Bridge, now visible also from the new terrace of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, on your right you can find the fish market, the land of flavours both for locals and foreigners. On the other bank there is the Ca’ d’Oro palace, in the “sestiere” (Venetian district) of Cannaregio. Robert and Claudia land just before getting to this district and they get into a romantic historical palace.

They go upstairs. The feeling of anticipation is in the air. That kind of silence that comes after a storm (in this case a sentimental one). The doors open wide. There’s a violinist and an opera singer. Robert had promised his girlfriend a special evening, but she really couldn’t imagine how special it would have been. And she still doesn't know that this is just the beginning. The two lovers hug each other. In order not to disturb the artistic performance, they whisper into each other’s ear. Then he kneels down on the carpet and draws the ring out. It’s the moment of the proposal they have so long dreamed of. She looks at him, as she can’t really believe. There are red petals all around them. A weak “yes" comes out of her lips. Now they are engaged. They will soon get married and when they tell how they decided to do it, their story will always go back here in this historical Venetian palace where Robert arranged such a  romantic wedding proposal.

The staff gently smile. They look out the window. Venice is flowing under them. Public means of transport (boats), other gondolas, private cabs. It seems unbelievable that a city can live like this, but here this is daily life. Something that now also belongs to their lives. A little toast and then it is time to go out. The masegni (pavings of Venetian streets) are a little wet. Pigeons and seagulls are looking for food as usual. Young people are spending their time divided between music and social networks. Now Claudia and Robert hold each mother’s hand even more tightly than before. Their feelings haven’t changed. Yet something different is there. Something even more marvellous has been engraved in their hearts. Today, in Venice, in a historical palace Robert placed his wedding proposal and Claudia said “yes”.
