Marriage proposal in Venice at night on a gondola
Omar chose to ask his girlfriend’s hand with a romantic gondola ride at night on the canals of Venice.
The couple gets aboard the Gondola in Saint Mark’s Square, along the Venice canals the atmosphere is magic, at their arrival at the campiello they met a violinist waiting for them: they are surrounded by candles and the emotion bursts
A gondola ride in Venice at night and a marriage proposal. Can something more romantic than that exist? Omar carefully thought about it. He planned every small detail. For an amazing wedding proposal, you need an organisation as great as your feelings, and obviously as the city where all this will take place. And actually this is how everything was imagined and then made come true.
Summer has its exciting life and its endless nights, but winter has its strong and cosmic charm. They lived this allure here, in the land of the Doges and of Goldoni. Omar and his enchanting fiancée arrived in Venice for a typical holiday on the lagoon; the girl was absolutely unaware of the romantic plan accurately arranged by her partner. First a gondola ride at night, then the enchantment of a marriage proposal: a candle-lit moment with the presence of a violinist to make everything even more romantic. A fairytale? No, this is the true story of Omar and his sweetheart.
Venice with its two faces. Chaotic during the day, but dedicated just to few selected people when the lights give way to the darkness. Omar and his partner are walking around the city. Some tourists like them. Some Venetian guys on their way home after a long work day. They have just arrived in Saint Mark’s Square. There is a weird silence. Over there, in front of the imposing Basilica, the two young guys are holding their hands. They think of their life. They are happy. Sentimental pilgrims in a city that is as romantic as no other cities in the world.
Omar has arranged something really special for her. He organised a romantic proposal in Venice at night. It is cold, but the gondoliers are now well equipped, too. And here they are supplying the couple with a red blanket. The emotions can warm up their hearts, but their external sensations must be satisfied as well. The atmosphere says it all. The pilot starts to row. They go past the first bends of that part of the lagoon in front of the square, where the waters from the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal flow into each other; then they start slowly wandering about.
The two lovers are more and more amazed. In the meantime, the gondola goes out the Venetian little channels and finally gets to the Grand Canal. Here, even now, millions of tourists come from all over the world to admire a “street” that has no parallel. Here you can look out a ferryboat or a rowing boat and discover a world made of palaces, turrets, mosaics, sculptures and reflections in the water. Here, in a while, a man will get off the gondola to pop the question to the love of his life.
The gondola comes alongside the close Campiello del Remier, a very characteristic point of the lagoon city, surrounded by buildings of the fifteenth century and with an end on the water. It’s a place of ancient jobs. Here some of the best rows of the Maritime Republic used to be built. In the middle of the little square there is a well. Around and on it, a lot of candles. It looks like a cinema set design or the scenery of a shamanic ceremony. The woman is struck. Maybe there has been a party, she thinks.
Little candle lights in elegant glass containers welcome them on the little wooden landing stage. Just like an excited child decorating the Christmas tree cheers up the atmosphere, a violinist lightens up the night air with his musical notes and a charmed inspiration. They draw their smartphone, as if it was a weapon, and they start taking pictures. When could another similar moment happen? Could a more incredible moment in Venice exist? The answer is yes.
It’s all much more simple. It’s all much more romantic. Omar chose Italy to officialise his love. Omar is absolutely determined. Omar is ready to declare his love. Omar is ready for his marriage proposal in Venice. Omar moves along some vital centimetres, just the space to be able to go down on his knees and ask her hand in marriage.
She hardly believes to what is happening. She accepts. They hug each other. They kiss each other. They enjoy that love concert and then they decide to put out to sea again. The gondola is waiting for them. They get aboard together, this time as an engaged couple. They go back to Saint Mark’s Square, but it’s still no time to stop dreaming and go back to real life. The most wonderful life must be enjoyed with your eyes wide open. Their feet struggle to move as if they were stuck in the mold of an everlasting feeling. They nearly would like not to get off the gondola anymore. Thanks to the low tide, once got off the boat, they sit on the ground with their legs hanging on the water.
Down there, in front of them there is the Saint Giorgio Maggiore’s Basilica, designed by the world-famous artist Andrea Palladio, one of the biggest architects of the Renaissance and of the Maritime Republic of Venice. His works were mostly concentrated in the two cities of Venice and Vicenza. The foundation stone of the building was laid in the faraway 1566. To go up the bell tower (which is as high as 75 metres) gives you a view with no parallel in the world. Today it’s the Basilica that is looking down, towards these two souls who are determined to share their future. Omar and his fiancée soar in the love breeze that gently blows on Saint Mark’s basin, between the Doge’s palace and the Punta della Dogana. A turmoil of History and Art is making its way in these two people's hearts.
From up the clocktower the two mighty Moors beat the bell. Today and forever this will beat the time of love for Omar and his fiancée.
