Marriage proposal in Venice in a romantic little square

Davor and Stella got engaged in Venice, a tour on a gondola, The intimate and romantic atmosphere of the lagoon city, the violinist and the lifelong promise.

Stella Davor Proposal 1130 600

Davor organised  a fantastic day for Stella, his marriage proposal in Venice in an intimate and romantic Venetian little square. They arrived aboard a famous gondola and they continued their day at the Danieli Hotel to take some special pictures and videos.

Davor and Stella’s love has found its amphitheatre, a romantic “campiello” (a Venetian little square) in Venice where a sweet and elegant marriage proposal is on stage, followed by a toast to their eternal love on the terrace of the Hotel Danieli. In the same way as Croatia is reflected in Italy and vice versa, Davor and Stella (citizens of the former Slavic region) have deep feelings that are reflected one in the other. And recalling the middle-earth of Tolkien, in this case the land for their wish is the Serenissima.

The cold, wet and foggy autumns are now a distant memory. Today, in the globalised and temperature-controlled world of the third millennium, even in the ancient Maritime Republic the month of November is a period cheered up by mild and sunny days when lovers can wander about, walking and holding each other’s hand, enjoying every scrap of the charm of the lagoon city. Apparently like a normal couple, Stella and Davor are going to spend some days of holiday. The young woman is absolutely unaware of the poetic plot that her Davor has devised: a romantic marriage proposal on a gondola in Venice.

In Venice it’s not uncommon to meet some street artists that crowd the “calli” (Venetian little streets) and so why wonder so much if, after a little walk on the side of the Grand Canal, you met a violinist cheering up the atmosphere? Venice is an ongoing invitation for any art form, but this time it is only the background. A charmed Venice observes Davor while he kneels down to ask Stella’s hand in marriage. Stella hugs him and Davor stands up.

Behind Davor’s Venetian marriage proposal there is a perfect organisation which took care of every single detail. The young woman is given a bouquet of red roses with a glass of champagne to make a toast with. And finally here they are, the newly engaged couple put out to sea again aboard the gondola. Venice, their wedding and a life to spend together are waiting for them.

Venice is reflected on the new shiny engagement ring. Stroke by stroke, every soft wave is the excuse to give each other another kiss. The tour carries on under the Bridge of Sighs, and then they go under the “neighbour”, the “Ponte della Paglia”, and they finally enter the triangle of wonders: that is that portion of the lagoon surrounded by Saint Mark’s, Saint George’s and the Punta della Dogana. The love vessel docks. And here they are carrying on their tour on foot, under the new Procuratie, while the legendary Florian Café piques their curiosity.

They decide to stop there because a marriage proposal is something absolutely unique and must be lived in the sweetest and most memorable way ever. Davor declares his love and this time Stella can’t avoid some warm tears of joy. From the red porphyry of the statues of the Tetrarchs to the gold of Saint Mark’s lion and angels, passing through the colours of the mosaic representing the transfer of the body of the Patron Saint, all the facade of Saint Mark’s Basilica contributes to add some sparks of magic to their feelings. Stella and Davor take their time in Saint Mark’s Square. This magic night can’t end. She holds her bouquet tightly. There’s both strength and sweetness in her.

The grand finale after the marriage proposal takes place on the terrace of the Hotel Danieli. From up there, they can see the charm of Venice at their feet. The orange-red lights of the dusk cover Stella’s hair blowing in the wind. The high steeples of Venice observe and capture in their stone soul another human hug. They are two sweet lovers in front of the architectural magnificence of a city without parallel in the world, just like their love. A seagull stretching its wings flies around them.

From up there, you can observe the sky turning into a dark blue, and you can also make your wish. Maybe once upon a time. In Stella and Davor’s present life love is no more a hope, it’s their abiding reality. Paraphrasing the immortal song by Luciano Ligabue, a famous singer-songwriter from Emilia, whose video was settled in Venice in the districts of Cannaregio and Castello:

“You will fall in love, little star inside the sky (Davor’s sky) / you will show your love / you will accept / you will melt in the sweetness of a proposal.”
