The best marriage proposal with Flashmob is in Venice, Italy

The romantic charm of Venice, Italy, made Darwin fulfil the best marriage proposal with Flashmob for his lovely Kartini.

Kartiri Darwin Proposal 1130 600

The lagoon calls, Asia answers. In the magnificent natural background of Venice, in Italy, Darwin made the best marriage proposal with Flashmob come true.

Down there, in the always fascinating and mysterious Africa, two souls met. Darwin from Singapore. Kartini from the even further Indonesia. And it’s there, in its capital Jakarta, that this man and this woman share their life, living together. In their recent past there’s been a trip to Italy, in Venice. There, in the breathtakingly beautiful background of “calli” and “gondole”, the young Darwin prepared every little detail to offer his sweet Kartini the best marriage proposal ever, accompanied by a flashmob, too.

Darwin had already been in Venice, though his future better half has not. Inevitably the ancient Maritime Republic had found its way to his heart. Inevitable some kinship. From an island to another “colleague”, we could say. Therefore, when the desire of getting married starts arising stronger and stronger, he has an amazing idea: a holiday in Venice, organising there a romantic wedding proposal, without his partner knowing.

Just the time to search the web, to put the right key words in the search engines and the website Brilliant Wedding Venice turns up. Among the several proposals, one stands out: a gondola ride, followed by a dancing flashmob and finally the magic moment to pop the question. What makes Darwin incline towards this choice is the fact that Kartini loves dancing very much. What else to add? There is just to tell her about an Italian holiday, to buy the flights, to secretly buy the engagement ring and above all to keep calm and control his excitement until the D-day.

And that day has finally come. It is Saturday 25th July. It is a hot morning in Venice. Darwin and Kartini get aboard a gondola on Saint Mark’s Square. The typical Venetian boat avoids at first the traditional tour on the Grand Canal and heads towards a less crowded way down several little canals: the gondolier rows towards the sestiere (a Venetian district) of Castello. As if they were in a branch of Willy Wonka’s world or in a parallel universe in Wonderland (Alice’s world), nearly an hour and a half later the gondolier lets the couple disembark in the surroundings of San Francesco della Vigna.

Although Venice is still a city where men, women, boys, girls and children live the “life of campo”, so a life strictly connected with the neighbourhood and its square, something peculiar seems to be taking place here. Maybe the rehearsals for a dance show? It’s difficult to understand at first. But it’s a proper flashmob. There is a group of ten professional dancers coming from the local dance schools, all wearing black trousers and a white shirt. And those songs they start to move with, Marry you by Bruno Mars first and Thinking out loud by Ed Sheehan later, are a clear clue of what is going to happen. Something that you normally imagine could happen only in your dreams. But this is the pure and fantastic truth.

San Francesco’s campiello (a little square), really peculiar because of its characteristic colonnade, offers some shadow as a shelter to take refuge from the pressing muggy weather. The Asiatic couple is curiously watching. At first, they are invited to stay away, as if the dancers meant “we are practising, you can watch, if you like, but don’t interfere, please”. Darwin and Kartini keep observing. He is holding her gently but tight. After a minute of this performance, the two boys of the group go to the girl and invite her to participate, pushing her to the centre of their dance action. Then they all spread their arms as if they were inviting her. Suddenly the dancers open their circle and there he comes.

Determined as never before, Darwin is walking towards her. He is marching resolutely. It’s the strength of his feelings that is leading him. He takes her hands. He softly kisses her forehead. He whispers something in her ear. He finally speaks to her. In the meantime the boys and girls of the group form a dancing human circle all around them. They are both wearing dark sunglasses but some tears start coming out of Kartini’s delicate eyes. So Darwin takes a little box out: it is the box of their engagement ring. He gets down on his knees. His hands are shaking a little. Her ring finger seems to be heavier than usual. It’s a present for the rest of their life. The lips of the two guys get closer and they passionately kiss for some long seconds, while  the people around them clap and playfully scream of joy. Now they are dancing too. Some little steps for a big love. Another hug before going aboard the gondola again and go back to their base point.

The gondola takes them back to Saint Mark’s Square. The newly engaged couple wander about. A visit to the nearby gardens. A short walk under the Procuratie. The sun is so strong that the two guys think it is better to open a little parasol. The Venetian wind combs the hair and faces of the future bride and groom. Over there, at the bottom of the impressive Basilica, visited every year by millions of tourists coming from all over the world, they join in an endless hug. They are not wearing sunglasses now. One looks at the other. Even though the day for the official wedding is still far away, Darwin lets himself go to promises of eternal love. He promises to always be by her side. Darwin tells his beloved Kartini everything every woman would like to be told at least once in her life. Let’s call it the effect of romantic Italy. Let’s call it the inspiration of charming Venice. Let’s call it Darwin and Kartini’s day or simply the love story of the best marriage proposal with a flashmob.
