From Hong Kong to the Venetian lagoon. After a symbolic ceremony in Venice, celebrated in the luxurious setting of the Westin Europa and Regina, Alfred and Cici said the fateful "yes".

Mixed clouds in a free and scattered path in the sky. Grand Canal water in a sweet turmoil (and expecting). On the terrace of one of the most luxurious suites of the renowned Westin Europa & Regina of Venice, there is a special event to celebrate: the marriage of Alfred and Cici, from Hong Kong. A moment, according to tradition, dreamed for a long time and a moment that here, in the ancient maritime republic, has found its most natural and romantic consecration. A symbolic wedding in Venice, celebrated on the ninth of September. Day and month are not random: in eastern cultures, number nine symbolizes the "everlasting love".

Redoing (almost) the same way back that centuries ago the Venetian merchant Marco Polo did, Alfred and Cici are going to marry. They flew for more than 9000 km to give shape and magic to their final act. Now, that day has arrived. Setting of the happy event, the above mentioned Hotel. But it would be reductive to call it like that. In fact, the Westin is not a mere building, but it is an imposing structure formed by the union of five buildings, dated from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the oldest of which was originally owned by the noble family Tiepolo. This family had a very important role in the history of the Republic of Venice: it gives to Venice two doges (James and Lawrence, XIII century), the patriarch John (XVII century) and, later in time, acquired fame thanks to the painter Giambattista (1696-1770).

Another palace, that is now an integral part of the Westin Europa & Regina, had the honor of seeing represented the first opera of the famous composer Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868), native of the Marches. Indeed, until early nineteenth century (1818), people did not soujourn there, but only applauded; also it was the seat of the theatre of San Moisè, later called Minerva Theatre. There, on the ninth of July, 1896, the brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière, the creators of the film projector, showed for the first time their revolutionary invention. After several changes of ownership, the place became an hotel and many famous guests have stayed in the comfort of the refined atmosphere of the Westin. One above all, the father of Impressionism: the french painter Claude Monet who, among his works, also painted the Church of San Giorgio, the same church that Alfred and Cici could admire from their suites as they were about to get married.

Venice , 09/09/14. It's a Tuesday without imminent holidays. The winners of the 71th edition of the Venice Film Festival have just left the island. The colors of the Historical Regatta, which took place just nine days before, appear still in the air. No races now. In love we win together, or we do not participate at all.

In their respective rooms, both with a view of the Punta della Dogana, the newlyweds give themselves the final touches. She made her hair fixed, he checks his cufflinks. Out there, just a few steps away from them, an anomalous high tide of late summer tickles Basilica of San Marco, with the delight of tourists, that are walking and taking pictures. Up there instead, there is a different atmosphere. Calm and intense. Alfred is in a classic tuxedo. Cici wear a white flower in her hairstyle and the peach color of the nail polish match with her dress with train.

The couple arrive. A weak breeze does not scrape their flawless faces, able even so to reveal some sign of emotion. Alongside them there are families. A father is always a father. The
rite of accompanying to the "altar" his veiled daughter, is a common ground anywhere in the world. A crescendo of emotions. The bell tower of the Church of San Giorgio (in perspective) is now the last bastion that divide their hearts. A word slips between her lips. He is happy to take her in marriage. She is really happy to have him at her side.

And as a newborn spell, I do - I do. First her, then him. Alfred and Cici finally exchanged their first kiss as husband and wife. Behind, there is Punta della Dogana, that looks pleased, toasts and claps for them, together with a gentle rain of red petals. The Lion of St. Mark too “has something to say", flying on the banner above the head of the married couple. Closing the landscape, there is the imposing Basilica of the Health, whose giant dome seems the perfect metaphor for the greatness of this day.

Now, Venice can greet them. Alfred and Cici leave the hotel to enjoy a relaxing walk in the nearby Piazza San Marco. They dance for life. They dance in love. They walk holding their hands, across Procurative Nuove, under the curious gaze of the customers of the historic Caffè Florian. In their way back they made a little break in the Loggetta of Sansovino, right at the base of the bell tower. They look at the crowd, Doge and Duchess for a day.

But now it's time to “leave this land”. The modern (and big) black seahorses await. There is a gondola for them. A little taste of the long journey together that awaits them. Cici is relaxed and, in love, she lays down on her young husband Alfred. Paraphrasing the generational film The Crow (1994, of Alex Proyas): "The tides rise, people exchange promises. True love is forever."
