The proposal in a secret garden overlooking the Grand Canal

Wedding proposal in a secret garden in Venice.

David Proposal 1130 600

A secret garden overlooking the Grand Canal for a romantic wedding proposal.

A warm breeze. The colours of the Grand Canal and the sky. The boats and the gondolas go back and forth. Not far away, many tourists arrive in Santa Lucia station ready to explore Venice. In a secluded corner of the city a woman is still unaware of what is about to happen. She doesn’t know that, in that secret garden where they are placidly strolling, his David is going to make a memorable and romantic wedding proposal. There are still a few minutes before he kneels to propose.

Alleyways, canals, squares, bridges. This is undoubtedly Venice. This is the Venice we all know. But there is something more. Venice is also green spaces. Not always visible or very big, but there are many secret gardens, not often visited by tourists. Among the most famous, the orchards of the convent of the Capuchin Friars in the Church of the Redeemer and on Giudecca island. Green spaces and secret gardens of churches and also of noble palaces, some of which have become luxury hotels.

But there are also open spaces easy to access, like the gardens Papadopoli in Piazzale Roma, the royal gardens of San Marco, the gardens of the Biennale, the park Savorgnan close to the bridge Ponte delle Guglie, and of course the extensive park of Villa Groggia in Cannaregio. These are the places where the Venetians like to relax or go jogging or play with children.

David chose a secluded garden to propose to his better half. The garden is well maintained, red roses and trees all around. An innocent and passionate kiss suddenly turns into something even more special and intense. Here, in a secret garden in Venice, David asks the question. He kneels. With a ring. He's making a wedding proposal. She’s amazed and excited. The two lovers hug.  The table is a triumph of chalices and petals.

The jewel shines on her ring finger. It’s hard to contain this overflowing joy. They feel pure happiness. They start talking about where and when but there's time to plan their wedding. Now they have to seize the moment and live the magic of it without hesitation. David and his betrothed look into their eyes and admire Venice from their oasis of grass and flowers. From today this garden should be renamed “the garden of love”.

Too many people believe to know Venice. But there are many secret gardens to discover.  And if you arrive in the lagoon with your partner, who knows, maybe you'll be like David, who turned a “simple” wedding proposal into something truly amazing in a secret garden overlooking the Grand Canal.
