Vows renewal, a wonderful day in Venice

Surrounded by the love of their daughters, Michael and his wife Sylvie celebrated their wedding anniversary in a luxurious Venetian Palace. It's been a long time since that first "I do." Today those two young lovers are also a mum and a dad. They gave birth to four beautiful creatures that now accompany them in their special ceremony in Venice. They decided the goal and then agreed with the wedding planner to make this dream an imperishable reality. At that point they just had to catch a plane, stay and wait. That is what happened.

It is their day, the day of the vows renewal. They chose Venice and a palace facing the Grand Canal. They arrive all together, the two spouses and the four daughters behind them. They are welcomed by a refined but also cosy luxury, with the glorious effigies of the Serenissima dating back to the distant 13th century all around the place. Today there is a united family. A man and a woman are about to celebrate and live their anniversary ceremony in a palace in Venice. Holding their hands, they are ready to swear eternal love for the second time. They are ready to communicate that they want to stand beside each other in front of the fourfold fruit of their love.

To reach the site of the ceremony is not difficult: on foot you just have to walk along the only Venetian street that goes straight, from St. Lucia railway station to Campo Santi Apostoli through Cannaregio district, just five minute walk from the Rialto Bridge. Alternatively, you can take the vaporetto (line 1) and go off at Ca' d' Oro stop, where there is a museum with the same name. Even if the most fascinating way is probably the gondola: you can go aboard close to the Rialto fish market, a minute later you’ll arrive in Campo Santa Sofia and there you have to go up an impressive staircase.

This family's journey passes not only through sentiments, but also through the art which overflows in the 14th-century palace, with a distinctive façade bathed by the waters of the Grand Canal. Two marble putti, made by the Venetian sculptor Francesco Bertos, invite the guests to go up the steps of the wide staircase designed by a Venetian architect, Andrea Tirali (1657-1737). They arrive in the hall of the ceremony, with the ceiling decorated with frescoes by Pietro Longhi.

They are all dressed very casual, beginning with the same married couple. Sylvie in purple cyclamen with elegant heels combined. Michael with a blue spezzato and a golden necklace. A white rose in his buttonhole and a bouquet for his wife. The outfits of their daughters are simple but trendy: summer dresses and classic hairstyles, wedges, open sandals and embroidery. The two spouses sit down in front of the officiant. Three daughters sit together behind the dad, the fourth behind the mum with her boyfriend close to her. Word after word, the hands of Michael and Sylvie get closer and closer. A watch on his left arm, a colourful bracelet on her right arm.

Two women playing violin are also in the hall. Venice, a luxury palace and the renewal of wedding vows.
The framework is perfect, it’s time for the exchange of the rings. They embrace. Their daughters take some picture, deeply moved. Then the spouses turn again into parents and tenderly kiss their “little” daughters. The glasses are raised, it’s time for a toast with fine wine and delicious delicacies. And they dance, graceful steps to whisper something that will remain only in their two hearts. The Venetian palace not only has remarkable furniture, but it’s also located in a city like Venice, and wherever there is an open window you cannot miss the opportunity to look through it.

In this historical building there is a small terrace,  where Michael and his renewed bride enjoy the salty air. The Italian flag waves along with the one of the European Union and the Venetian one, depicting the orange lion of Saint Mark on a red background. In front of them the Grand Canal; on their left they can see St. Mark's Square and the Basilica della Madonna della Salute and, far before, the Rialto Bridge. On the right, the Church of San Stae and, on the same shore (of the palace), the Curch of San Marcuola.

Just one thing left, the one that can transform something beautiful into something unforgettable: a gondola ride. The "crew" divides: a gondola only for the spouses, another one for the daughters and the boyfriend. The two boats go from main canal to others, shifting inwards through the city. The sun sets before the eyes of the amazed passengers. They look around. They greet and smile. So this will be handed down as a memorable day in Venice. The wedding was renewed with a vows renewal in a palace. Everything else is the pure joy of living a life shared.
